The History and Philosophy of Science Undergraduate Society (HPSUS) at the University of Toronto is excited to announce that registration for the Eighth International Undergraduate Research Conference on Science, Technology, Medicine, and Society (STMS) is now open.

Taking place on Thursday, March 21st, and Friday, March 22nd, 2024, our 2-day virtual conference features 14 excellent undergraduate submissions from multiple institutions, as well as a keynote address from Dr. Heather Douglas on her most recent research titled: “Revisiting the Social Construct in Science”. Attendees will get a chance to interact with the keynote speaker and student presenters during Q&A sessions and social hours.

The theme this year is “Individuals and Institutions of Science”, with presentations that explore the intricate relationship between individuals and institutions in our society and the constructs, practices, and ethical dilemmas that emerge as a result. Some examples include reflections on our collective understanding of concepts such as motherhood, malnutrition, and disability, as well as developments in gender-affirming care, Artificial General Intelligence, and vaccinations.

Please visit our conference webpage for the official program, presenters’ abstracts, and the registration form: https://hpsus.sa.utoronto.ca/stms-conference-2024/. Registration is free and open to all. Attendees are welcome to drop in and out according to their availability but are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Stephanie Cui at stephaniedr.cui@mail.utoronto.ca. We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
